My Health before joining JSLF was moderately active. My weight loss journey started just over 3 years prior to walking in the doors at JSLF for the first time. Between Sept 2014 and June of 2015 I lost 50 pounds and maintained that loss through 2015 and 2016. It was late 2016 when the weight started to climb slowly even though I was eating relatively healthy and running a minimum of 3 times weekly. 2016 saw me complete 2 half marathons and it was during the training of the second that weight started to creep up and I couldn’t understand why. It was during the Christmas season of 2016 that I saw that FB post for the 21-day Elite challenge, I presented the post to a friend and asked if she would join the challenge with me, she agreed, a good thing because I don’t think I would have had enough guts to walk through the doors at JSLF on my own.
I have been a Member Since January 2017.
What brought me in through the doors initially was, after 2 years of weight maintenance, it was late 2016 when the weight started to climb slowly even though I was eating relatively healthy and running a minimum of 3 times weekly to train for the 2 half marathons that I completed that year. It was during the training of the second half marathon that the weight started to creep up and I couldn’t understand why.
Since Joining JSLF through the 21-day Challenge in January of 2017 I have lost a total of 9-lbs and reduced my overall fat percentage by 1.2% (3.2lbs). The beyond the scale accomplishments for me were learning to eat 5 small meals a day, understanding that although fruit is good for me I cannot consume it in the amounts I was. Everything in moderation.
My most recent accomplishment would be achieving personal best result running the Niagara Falls Women’s half Marathon event June 4th. I completed this event with a time of 2hrs 09 min. This was a huge reduction as my previous PB was 2hrs 26 min. that is a difference of 17 mins, I was estatic to say the least. I attribute this success to the countless tread and shred classes along with the weight training sessions over the previous 5 months. The increased core strength and Vo2 max levels (Volume of oxygen (in milliliters) you can consume per min per kilogram of body weight at maximum performance) I have attained through sprint and weight training have been amazing.
Fortunately, I did and do not suffer with any health conditions, living the lean and fit life style is a great way for me to prevent health issues/conditions from developing.
Believe – You’ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself.
My Husband and my girls along with my close friends are very supportive of my journey. My husband has shown his support from day one by jumping in and following the nutrition plan along with me. He too has dedicated himself to living a healthier lifestyle and has lost 35lbs in the process.
You have nothing to lose by joining, but everything to gain. To name a just a few, here are the things to be gained; health, fitness, energy, confidence, and a renewed love of life.
Yes, I have met many new friends and continue to meet people in class each day.
Here is where I would like to give a shout out to Mia and Kate for your patience, in answering the countless nutrition questions, being the amazing instructors that you are, providing motivation and encouragement each time we me, either in passing or in class. For pushing me beyond what I perceived I was capable of, along with celebrating the milestones of personal bests. The results have been nothing short of amazing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Jenn, the very first person I connected with when I walked through the doors at JSLF, for the very first time. She always greets you with the biggest smile, she is patient and helpful, whether questions about products, journals, nutrition, classes, heart rate monitors, you name it, she will do her best to provide you with the answers that you are looking for. Thank you!
Last but certainly not least Josh Powell, my personal trainer, who introduced me to the world of weight training and somehow made it enjoyable and never once did I ever feel out of place, in something I considered initially to be more of a “guys space”. 🙂 Your patience, guidance, and instruction were invaluable in helping me achieve my personal fitness goals. Thank you!
I strive daily to continually build on my nutritional and fitness knowledge, this comes in large part by showing up to JSLF classes along with experimenting with healthy recipes so that eating clean never becomes boring.
